@mofaraider thanks but ill buy an athlon 64. well, i do have am2 socket. the thing that concern me is upgrading to 7 after i buy the athlon 64. i love xp but it uses directx 9 and 7 uses directx11. this is kinda nagging on my head for a while now….
@MidnightRedemption nope it doesent need to be overclocked . If you want more performance buy an Athlon XP those have more power than semprons

Oke, just install your Vista on the computer, then check in the hardware manager if there is an ! by one of the components, then you have to search drivers for it, otherwise there is no need to install more drivers i think. In case you should get to the Nvidia website and get the latest driver for your graphics card

I think it doesent really matter, the only thing should be, that you getting the right drivers for your components to have a error free working guaranteed
but you have asus mother board and i don,t have it now what you think it works fine or not :~(
I didnt had any lags at all, really worked smooth and worked really good for surfing and co. I personally would buy a Windows Seven home premium, it also runs really god (i actually think better) on such older computers

did they have lag coz this pc is so old did you have any lag to using aero with nvidia grfoce 5500 fx i have it what did you think did i used aero vista on this pc ????

Just goes to show you dont always need the latest and greatest hardware just to run a new operating system efficiently . I tend to wait about 2 years at a time to make even a simple hardware upgrade. I have an AMD Sempron 3100+ borard I’m workin on upgrading

Well i use this old pc still today, i have the agp ati radeon hd3850 pro512mb card and runs smooth. However the amd can not run all games the first game i found that have problem with the fps its aion. So far the rest works great.

I got now as second system an AMD Athlon XP 2600+ on Abit At7 Max 2 Mobo Wathercooled Radeon 9700 Pro 128 MB and 3 GB of DDR 400 Ram and it also runs great with seven =)

lol i have a amd3000+ with 3gb ram and 333mhz ram speed. use 4x750gb seagat pata and a 1xq-tec raid 133mhz card with 3x350gb wds and 1xphilips dvd and yes vista windows 7 all works without any problem. The old amd works perfect. With some small stuning it runs like a foxs.
