After a few dissapointments with 600+ EUR notebooks I bought one of the cheapest avaliable. I got the Toshiba Satellite L300D-21P (PSLCGE-002001GR) for 299 EUR (419$) incl. shipping. Its a nice device, ok, it has not the same quality as a Thinkpad, Sony or what else, its made of plastic, but it has a silent fan, good speakers, the keyboard is ok (a bit loud), the screen is good and bright, better than some Samsung or Thinkpad screens I saw before. Specs are: – AMD Sempron SI-40 (2 GHZ singlecore), 512KB Cache – 1 GB RAM (I upgraded it to 2GB, otherwise BF2 runs with lags) – 120 GB Harddisk (Toshiba 5400rpm) – DVD Writer – ATI 3100 with shared mem – 3x USB 2.0ModemLANWLAN 802.11bg – ExpressCard Slot – 15.4" WXGA glare TFT (1280×800) The video shows BF2 with medium details at 1280×800, view range at 100%

how well will it run with decent graphics setting?
I BOUGHT THIS LAPPI FOR ~ 300Euros xD NEW. I can play Guild Wars, FEAR Combat online, BF2 all on medium.
I bought this laptop also, mainly because it was the cheapest – but also because the graphics chip was slightly better than any of the other cheap machines. Have to say it runs every game I have tried. Fallout 3 at 1280×800 on medium detail, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and more. Amazing for the money certainly.

Do you have a notebook or a pc with an Sempron 3100+?
It’s an old and low end CPU but with a good graphic card, COD4 MAY run.
But if you want to play games, I would spend a few bucks and buy an Athlon II X2 or X4 for e.g., it’s cheap and much faster than the old Sempron.

noplan724, i have ati radeon 3100 and it rocks, i can play cod4 modernwarfare on high and med settings, crysis on high and med just turn shaders off on crysis
and gamepro is right dualcore is wayyy faster,

windows 7 ultimate 64bit.
Ja die Stabilität war bei meinem auch nicht so gegeben, vor allem der Displaydeckel war von außen ganz schön dünn und lies sich leicht eindrücken. Der Akku hielt nicht so besonders lange, wenn ich mich richtig erinnere (habe das Gerät ja inzwischen nicht mehr) warens so um 2,5 Stunden im idle. Nagut, aber es war zum Zeitpunkt des Kaufes auch der günstigste zwischen 12 und 17 Zoll, denn man bei geizhals bekommen konnte, darum hab ich nicht viel erwartet. Für den Preis wars ok.
Da hast du richtig glück, meiner ist leider auch ein ziemliches Montagsmodel. Ist nicht nur wiegesagt eine scheiß Heizung sondern auch ziemlich wabellich in der Konstuktion.

Nein überhaupt nicht, meiner war ziemlich kühl. Naja, aber ich hatte ja auch nur nen Einkern-Sempron und das Kühlsystem ist mit ziemlicher Sicherheit das gleiche wie in allen anderen L300, also auf 2 Kerne ausgelegt.

I can play Crysis on my 3100. I think your problem is having a SINGLE CORE processor. Dual-Core processors are WAY faster. I diden’t buy a 3100 for gaming, just saying it works with crysis. I can almost max cod 4 on it.

I didn’t try it, but the 3100 is absolutely low end. Prototype and Crysis won’t run, COD4 maybe on lowest details and still then not good. You shouldn’t buy a notebook with the ATI 3100 for gaming, it’s too slow.
