The Ultimate CPU Overclocking Guide!
so yeah thats a little comparison between the 8800gts overclocked and the stock clocks in 3dmark06… who needs a 8800gtx when you can get nearly the same power with a xfx 8800gts?^^ rest of my system: e6600@3.3ghz 3gb corsair ram 800mhz evga n680i mainboard stock clocks: 5131188792mhz overclocked:67516201053@stock cooler last temperatures dont get above 70°C, normally theyre around 65°C while playing gamez…
and so my answer is: YES JUST DO IT! (at your own risk of course…
)
you get so much power for free, nvidia is simply amazing #) music: lexy and k-paul – ponyboy remix oh yeah and please leave a comment

stock clocks: 513/1188/792mhz overclocked:675/1620/1053@stock cooler. This must be the earlier 640mb version you have my stock clocks are 650 core, 1625 shader, 972 memory clock which being dual band is actually doubled to 1944MHz. Using EVGA precision can easily clock up the core to 800MHz memory up to 1050MHz on stock cooler. But dont use these stats for everyday usage just a slight OC at 720 core mem 1020.
I had a XFX 8800 GTX then had severe issues with overheating on it! Luckily bought it from Scan who gave me a refund. They thought oh "its your power supply not having enough wattage" which was bs as was a Tagan 480W which my friend uses on his GTX 460 with no probs! Luckily it was the wrong card sent so they had to give me a refund. Wasnt the xxx version but the standard version. Anyhow then bought a Gainward 8800 GTS 512mb and no such issues at all!
@nemesiselite0 When you overclock too much, your system crashes because you overclock too much. It sounds stupid, but it’s the truth!
@nemesiselite0 if it doesn’t have enough voltage it will crash
if it doesn’t have enough voltage it will crash
@Gummikallinn each card is differnt some will overclock more than others and you might have one of the 8800gts’s with less overclocking ability.
and? does it really matter?
@Jasdoifhq im not sure but just mentioning, the 2 cards are identical, only difference is that the 640mb uses chips with twice the density aka same card different sized (mb) memory chips.
@Pwnd0011 overclocking is where you change the clock speed of the gpu core, gpu shaders and gpu memory, so yes it is overclockign, and yes it is changing the settings.
hey…

It’s pretty common to get 80C+ with the old 8800GTS cards
its not overclocking he just changed the settings :S

ok this might help you decide
the gtx250 is a re-named 9800gtx+(so basicly exactly the same as far as i have heard)
the 9800gx2 is not that good at higher resolutions(micro stuttring)
i would advise the gtx260 if you want to upgrade. the 8800 would last long enough to save up that last little bit

nice. would you recommend upgrading from my current card (EVGA 8800GTX 768) to the 9800GTX+ or the 9800GX2 or even the GTX 250. i would prefer an evga card. thanks
