Dragon Age was pretty wimpy on console. The PC version’s more difficult, has greater replay value (mods), has far better controls, and looks better. It actually was a PC exclusive to begin with so it’s no real surprise that the game’s best played on PC.
Diss them yet? I’ve been dissing them for the past 10 years. Console developers know what consoles do best… and it’s certainly not FPS’s, RTS’s, or sims.
@DWTerminator
Console games have been improving allot due to the HDD’ś and ability to download more content. And they might on certain points not on the level of their pc brethen. But certain they are pretty darn good and some do offer great replayability. Like Dragon Age Origins.
Don’t diss on console games yet
They are getting allot better..
PC game makers aren’t losing their edge… they’re just going where the money is. After all, you can easily get away with charging more for console games that are short and have little replay value. Since everything’s pretty much a multiplatform release these days, of course they’re gonna focus more on the majority market: consoles.
As for NWN’s updates… some were content updates. Some were expansion updates. 1.69, for instance, adds in the content from the latest premium module.
@DWTerminator
True True it would run decently under XP. But yeah it is sad if a product is left in a bad state I mean lets be fair NWN 1 did get up to 1.69.
And it was smooth very smooth.
Well yeah console games have their limitations but also gains. For instance.. they just do it.. they might not look as beautiful as PC games but they just run. That yes the games are tailer made/adjusted for the consoles..its a price I am willing to pay. Definitely since PC game makers are losing their edge
Unfortunately the community for NWN2 isn’t anywhere near as devoted as the Vampire community. We’re stuck with the Obsidian patches… which have stopped and will probably never resume.
As for giving up space for Windows… XP isn’t that big. Anyway, PS3 is hardly a good substitute for PC when it comes to modern gaming.
@DWTerminator
Well that would meaning giving up space for windows.. yeah. Not to mention I have a PS3. I might re install the old NWN, that was a pretty neat game if not limited.
But yeah troika did dissapear and the official patching was on 1.2. By now unofficial patching including mods like adding other vampire clans and so on might be around 6.7..or higher.
You can always dual-boot to play the newer stuff. I know a few people with Macs who do that, but I think it’s a little tougher on Linux.
It’s pretty sad when you have to rely on the fans to fix all the game’s problems though.
@DWTerminator
I sadly know what you mean some of the games I do play Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines had so many bugs. But the Fans kept patching it and really pulled it up.
But sadly my PC gaming days are over. I switched to linux and yes I can run older games through Wine/PlaysOnLinux. But the newer games..no :!
Bad coding… memory leaks… etc. Typical of Obsidian, but anyway… It’s really sad to see such a good game plagued by such horrendous bugs.
Sadly I have to agree with that the engine is bad. I mean it could be good but.. why did it have to crash right around the same point time and time again?
I dunno where you read that, but I doubt it’s a credible source. LucasArts wouldn’t tell them not to finish a game. They just wanted KotOR2 out by a deadline and thus we have a broken game. Had Obsidian *really* wanted to release a patch to fix everything and put the missing content in… they would’ve. I’m pretty sure they just got caught up in their other projects.
@DWTerminator
I am 100% that I read somewhere that Lucas arts actually did NOT let them do it.For god knows what reason.
LucasArts had plenty to do with releasing the broken KotOR2… but nothing stopped Obsidian from releasing a patch to fix things apart from their other projects.
And yes, KotOR2 was a phenomenal game… just horrendously buggy and unfinished. Same problem happened with NWN2.
To be fair, Obsidian never measures up to expectations for many reasons. First, they’re almost never given enough time to finish and test their games, so they get released horrendously buggy and often incomplete (as with KotOR2 and NWN2). Second, they’ll never measure up to their legacy. After all, several of them worked on Fallout 2, which is considered one of the best RPG’s ever made.
As for NWN2, it’d be great were it not for the game’s technical problems preventing the fun.
The worst part of NWN2 is comparing it to the first, since just like Kotor obsidian sweeps in to totally ruin the game, I dont even look at titles from them anymore.
Im sure as just another game its pretty fun, I enjoyed MoTB alot, but after having played the first for years I just cant stop myself from wishing they wouldnt have made it Neverwinter 2, as it didnt even come close to live up to its name.
@DWTerminator True, those ARE along the lines of what I was thinking of, but after hearing the frankly terribad voice acting I’ve heard in my 20+ years of gaming, I can safely say that NWN2 could have definitely been FAR worse. haha
As an aside, I’ve been following the quite hilarious site "audio atrocities"(Google it) for years, and they have a collection of hands down THE WORST voice acting from some of the most infamous titles..to some of the more obscure.

I rarely play as a spellcaster in a D&D-based game, but yes, NWN2′s certainly a great game. I wouldn’t put it at the top of the list of "best RPG’s ever," but it’s definitely fairly high on it.
I have Prince of Qin. I’ve watched the original Resident Evil. I’ve heard truly terrible voice acting.
NWN2′s luckily not on that level of failure, but it’s still pretty bad.
On another note, if you think the voice acting in NWN2 is bad, you clearly haven’t heard any truly terrible voice acting. haha
This is one of the best RPGs I have ever played…and I have played almost all of them at one point or another. Nothing quite as satisfying as playing a spell-caster in the world of Faerun, as they will SERIOUSLY ruin your Christmas. >:)
Oh I’m sure you know. You do know that you know, don’t you?
you know…no i don’t know
