    You said it ran stable 3.5 ghz with stock cooling – and then added a better cooler. the cooling doesn’t have anything to do with stability unless it starts overheating. If it is unstable at 3.8 but not overheating then buying a fancy cooler will not help. The only point of buying a better cooler is if you know you could go higher but heat problems are getting in the way.

    i have this processor overclocked to 3.7Ghz

    @SeriousDuckz depends on what u do specifically really, many application don’t support more then 2 cores, heck a lot of them still remain one core, 2.8Ghz sometimes consider on the slow side when handling things that requires a lot and don’t utilize multi core

  8. SeriousDuckz says:

    Isn’t the processor just fine at 2.8GHz?

  9. Barakuda318 says:

    My amd athlon II x2 is and has been running smoothly at 3.73ghz.. with stock cooling. I’m told that with modified cooling and better ram..this processor is capable of speeds up to 4.2ghz stable…but thats with 1600 ram ddr2..runs great for me at 3.73 though..

  10. tricccple says:

    @whONeEDZNaDeZ they are ddr2 800s

    I was somehow able to overclock this pcu with my oem motherboard with ntune settings dont know how i did it with this dinosaur m/b but who cares. Are you sure this cpu can reach 3.5ghz stable with the stock heatsink and fan?? I’m a novice at OC and i dont want to overload it.

    @deelberg for currently avalible, u must have AMD 740, 760G, 770, 780G, 785G 790GX, 790X, 790FX, 890GX, 890FX chipset of motherboard to work with overdrive.

    @deelberg So you are saying all the chips on that board have to be AMD???

  34. tricccple says:

    @deelberg AMD Overdrive only works with AMD 7 series or later motherboards, if u have a motherboard with any other chipset it will not work(for example an nvidia nforce chipset, or a older AMD 690 chipset)
