The Ultimate CPU Overclocking Guide!
Some newer AMD CPUs can be converted from single-core to double-core. With the proper mainboard you can make some adjustments from the BIOS and enable the other core(s) of your AMD processor. In this case a single-core Sempron 140 CPUs second officially turned off core is enabled and thus the CPU is recognized by Windows as a dual-core Athlon II X2 4400e. The mainboard used in this setup is: Asrock N68C-S UCC (UCC = Unlock CPU Core) Other mainboards from other manufacturers are different, thus the UCC function is not available anywhere.

@Karlo822 If the UCC is available in BIOS than just enable it. If your PC doesn’t start after enabling the UCC function, than probably your CPU is not able to use it’s other cores, because not every newer AMD CPU is able to do so, that’s why they are pobably disabled by default. If your PC doesn’t start after enabling the UCC, than take out your mainboard’s battery for a few minutes to clear the CMOS, than reinsert it and start the PC.
hey i got an asrock n68 s3 ucc with an amd athlon II X2 250 and the ucc feature doesnt work for me…
pls help
@1jakabaka My Windows Experience Index is 5.8 not 5.6, and the processor’s index at 2.7 GHz (witout overclocking) is 6.2
@FreewayyFTW i’m definitely bios smart, try checking your bios version vs the one in the video and then flash yours accordingly and try again.
good luck.
neat, i use software to get past my issues when running high end games and apps. using a socket 478 2.4 ghz with 1mb core cache, and i play games like mw2 and fear2 on my singlecore. thats bragging, unlocking chips, thats sneaky, and i wish i still had my sempron, now…
@furulevi now i regret smashing mine, back when my korean exgf dared to say i loved my computer more than i loved her. what a shame.
@Georgefromaccounting yes it is, you need more power, thats disgustingly low for dualcore plus graphics card, don’t ever go crossfire, rofl. your old psu, is something we all use on our OLD PENTIUM 4 socket 478′s WITH PCI-E slots.
@Georgefromaccounting The Sempron 140 cpu @2.7GHz with 2 cores enabled works pretty good for me even in modern games!! I have 3 GB of RAM although, my video is 9800GT 512MB DDR3. So my opinion is that the 2GB of RAM is not quite enough for modern games…
Hey, someone please reply. i unlocked my sempron 140 using a msi 880gma e45 motherboard. My questions is this: Would this unlocked cpu and 2gigs of ddr3 bottleneck a radeon hd4850???
BTW, i have an antec 650watt psu so thats not in issue lol
@mtvprankes If it is a newer AMD CPU like this Sempron 140, plus a suitable mainboard, than it might work, but remember, NOT every Sempron 140 CPU can be unlocked !
Hey could there be a way where i can unlock my dual core?
@FreewayyFTW NOT every Sempron 140 can be unlocked to dual-core mode !!! Try to clear your CMOS to reset the BIOS to the default setting by taking out the battery from your mainboard for a few minutes…
i did everything exactly like you did
i also have asrock n68c-s ucc and amd sempron 140 am3
when i clicked "save changes and exit" the computer restarted and there was a black screen. now the computer doesnt start anymore.
do you know what to do?
@furulevi oh…. my bad.
@MidnightRedemption the CPU and moterboard I used are AM3
@furulevi that is am2+ right? mine is just am2
(
@MidnightRedemption I don’t know about Intel CPUs… this AMD Sempron of mine works happily with 2 cores enabled, the newer generation Intel CPUs could have MAYBE officially disabled cores, but I don’t know anything about that…
does intel can be unlocked?
or amd just uses this easter eggs
@florianmaile Probably your processor’s second core is not working correctly and that’s why your PC refuses to boot normally. The second core on the Sempron 140 is officially turned off for this reason as they say.
Motherboard N68C-S UCC bios v1.3, Sempron 140, 2Gb ddr3 1333.
If I enabling it on the ucc function, turns off and restarts.
It black screen, there is not a boot.
I can only be restored by clearing CMOS.
@florianmaile I use my mainboard with ddr2 rams, the "Asrock n68c-s ucc" mainboard accepts ddr3 also, but it can not use both in the same time, the pc will not start at all, you have to choose between ddr2 and ddr3.
You mean that your pc will not start after enabling the UCC function?
I also have this same motherboard and processor.
DDR3 RAM is added, it can be ddr2?
4400E AM2 processors and DDR2 support only.
UCC does not start after the machine.
@doxiong dont forget to set pci-e buss to 100mhz
@doxiong
it depends on your memory and cpu cooler, i could run my semp 140 at 2 cores and 2,86ghz whit original cooler and ddr 2 1066 memory,
