@dreybert5789 Sounds like you’ve got a great spec computer on a budget which is always nice to see :D It’s so easy to build a system like that with AMD.

Great processor, great price! I’m running the X3 445 and have no desire to attempt to unlock the 4th core and I love it. Paired with the Radeon HD 5770 and 4 gigs of RAM makes a hell of a good gaming computer at a steal. I’ll always go with AMD over Intel. Don’t be suckered in to paying high prices for the i5 or i7, check out some of the AMD Phenoms first. Just my opinion though, it really depends what your main use of computers is.

@aschris87 There is now way this can be compared with i5. The Core i3 is the right for comparison, although the Athlon X3 cost $30 less but they have the same performance!

@aschris87 It is a great chip and we had a good experience with it. Intel are generally better at video converting, hence i use an i7 for these videos but be prepared to pay a LOT more.

Thank you for the review, I needed some extra input before I bought this!

(Well it’s a AMD Athlon II X3 445 3.1 GHz, but it’s still quite similar.)

Nice review. Toms Hardware has a webpage that details parts for a $550 (US) computer where you get the best bang for your buck and they recommend this CPU due to the fact you can possibly unlock a 4th core. Along with this they recommended a Powercolor ATI 5770 video, where I live it is a measly $139 (Canadian) which is an amazing value. Put this in all in an ASUS M4A77TD motherboard with a few gigs of Crucial RAM and you have a nice system cheap yet powerful and very overclockable.

@JingleBerries11 Hmmm. No… Better go for a 5670 to play at almost high settings or wait for the 6000 series…

@MidnightOrganFight Some quad cores are black editions which means you can unlock the multiplier for higher overclocks, but if you are referring to unlocking a tri-core to a quad, it gives you another dorment core to use, thus getting an expensive chip for a fraction of the price.

What would be the main reason to unlock the quad core and would it make a real difference?

@alex75877 This will cope with games no problem, as long as you have good memory and a decent graphics card.

How would this do for gaming, I would be using this with a radeon hd 5670. I have a Athlon II X2 250 right now but it can’t really play many high end games.
